National Blood Donor Month - Stardust Memorials Cares

Jan 02, 2023

January is National Blood Donor Month, a time to recognize the importance of blood donation and encourage more people to give blood.

Blood donation is crucial for the health and well-being of many individuals, including those undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and other medical treatments. Blood transfusions can also be necessary for individuals suffering from injuries, accidents, or illnesses.

Despite the critical need for blood donations, many blood banks and hospitals still struggle to meet the demand for blood. According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood, and just one donation can potentially save up to three lives.

The goal of National Blood Donor Month is to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage people to donate blood. Whether you are a first-time donor or a regular donor, you can make a difference in someone's life by donating blood.

Donating blood is important to the Stardust Memorials ladies. For several years, we've regularly partner with Versiti Blood Center of Michigan to host blood drives in our office.

More Resources

If you are interested in donating blood, you can start by finding a blood drive or donation center near you. There are several blood banks and companies that play a significant role in collecting and distributing blood and blood products. Here are some of the top blood banks and companies in the USA:

American Red Cross: The American Red Cross is one of the largest blood banks in the world, collecting and distributing more than 40% of the blood supply in the United States.

Vitalant: Vitalant, formerly known as Blood Systems, is one of the oldest and largest nonprofit blood service providers in the US. They serve more than 1,000 hospitals in 40 states and collect more than 1.8 million blood donations annually.

OneBlood: OneBlood is a not-for-profit blood center that serves Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. They provide blood and blood products to more than 250 hospitals in their service area.

New York Blood Center: The New York Blood Center is the largest community-based blood center in the Northeast, providing blood and blood products to hospitals in the New York/New Jersey region. CSL Plasma: CSL Plasma is a subsidiary of CSL Behring, a global biotech company that specializes in the development of life-saving therapies. They collect plasma, a component of blood that is used to make critical medications for patients with rare and chronic diseases.

When you give blood, you make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and help ensure that hospitals and blood banks have the resources they need to provide life-saving treatments.
